Vision Statement
To create an inclusive and empowering golfing community in South Africa, where individuals who are blind or partially sighted can compete at every level of the sport of golf.
Mission Statement
SABGA is committed to:
- Promoting interest and participation in golf among blind and partially sighted persons throughout South Africa.
- Organise and host regional and national golf events for blind and partially sighted golfers.
- Manage and support representation in international competitions, including active affiliation and participation with the International Blind Golf Association (IBGA).
- Partner with golf clubs, sponsors, communities and other organisations in order to strengthen opportunities, resources, and recognition for blind golf in South Africa.
- Advocate for the inclusion, awareness, and recognition of blind golf as a competitive and empowering sport.
- Uphold integrity, sportsmanship and excellence in all aspects of the association’s activities.
Brief History
Visually impaired golfers in South Africa have participated in the competitions organised by the South African Disabled Golf Association (SADGA) since the early 2000’s. The South African Blind Golf Association (SABGA) was itself formed in 2006.
The top South African blind golfers have participated in international events for the visually impaired, with much success. We have had golfers participating in the (biennial) IBGA World Championships since 2008.
SABGA has a growing base of dedicated players, and stages a South African Blind Golf Open annually.
