GOLF DEVELOPMENT DAY – 14 September 2024
The South African Blind Golf Association, together with Retina South Africa held a golf development day at the Benoni Lakes golf club on the 14th of September 2024.Participants came from all around Gauteng and we also welcomed the University of Johannesburg’s para-sport department.
The morning started off with introductions to SABGA and Retina SA. The participants were then divided into four groups and allocated to a blind golfer or a guide. The activities started off at the putting green for around an hour and a half and then moved to the driving range to hit a few balls.
All the participants really enjoyed themselves. SABGA and Retina SA received very positive feedback.
Two new golfers joined the SABGA following the day. We would like to welcome Marius and Kgosi to the blind golf community.
SABGA thanks Retina SA, Jurie Mare, Ernst Conradie, Shane Scheepers and Zander Conradie who all helped to make the day a great success.
Upcoming Events
IBGA World Championships & Canadian Open
We are proud to announce that several South African blind golfers and their guides have been officially invited to participate in the prestigious International Blind Golf Association (IBGA) World Championships and Canadian Open, which will be hosted by Blind Golf Canada at The Greens at Renton in Simcoe, Ontario, from 2 to 9 August 2025. Representing South Africa will be the following player-guide pairs: Mr Ernst Conradie with Mr Etienne van Staden, Mr Morné Els with Mr Henk Oberholzer, Mr Johan Kotze with Mr Jurie Maré, Ms Charlene Pienaar with Ms Suzette van Veen, Mr Garrett Slattery with Mr Erich Kliem, and Mr Leon Strydom with Mrs Lizell Strydom. We extend our warm congratulations to these athletes and guides as they prepare to compete on the international stage, showcasing their skill, resilience, and dedication to the sport of blind golf.
